More of the same. Lots of reading and Scrabble. Changed money pre-lunch in a town with one line of shops, a Barclays Bank, and a huge selection of bread – looking good. Lunched in a narrow roadway between tall grasses. Enjoyed a late afternoon beer stop in a town sporting a huge, brand new insurance building.
When we turned onto a side access track to camp we saw our first Zambian village huts, with low thatched domes and a assorted paraphernalia strewn across the ground, including guitars, tools, cooking pots, maize husks. The villagers waved as we passed but we decided against staying, hoping for something quieter and closer to Lusaka.
Finally camped on a rutted field in a large plantation, the manager coming over to speak to us but not at all upset by our invasion.
