Long day with two forced stops due to Bob’s being very sick with terrible stomach pain. At one stop, the rest of us enjoyed a great game of Frisbees, trying to throw through a rolling car tyre.
Drove through flat, sandy country with drift-enveloped hills on the horizon, all the colours muted in the heat haze like a faded watercolour. We then came to huge, red sand dunes that looked like they had been tipped onto the desert in a random place, although running in the same direction - folding into the wind.
Late afternoon we passed some elephant rocks, grey and wrinkled like hide, where we did a huge “U” turn, Kelvin having decided the multiple tracks were heading in the wrong direction. Did another U-turn after the ground softened beneath us. Eventually took the bit between our teeth and headed off again, camping, lost, beside an incredible rock formation suggestive of Gorome (Turkey).
