30th October 1985 : visa detour

Into Rabat city early to try for visas. Found out that I could get my Algerian one and Kelvin and Ben worked something out regarding the Central African Republic, so it was pandemonium for a short time, rushing across Rabat in a taxi. At one stage Ben had to get out and push us across the intersection - more like the dodgems than any normal traffic. Finally arranged to get my visa at 4pm, so headed to the market to get the others.

Having so enjoyed the shopping here with Bob, I hunted down Per and Vicki, who were filling in for us, and sort of took over. Headed to the beach to waste the hours until 4, where Bob and I filleted fish for two hours ready for dinner. Geoff went swimming but it was nowhere near warm enough for me to join him.

Picked up my visa and headed out of town for an early camp beside a beach where Bob and I toiled over hot oil for ages cooking fish and chips. Appreciated by most although we had forgotten that Myrta doesn’t eat fish. Exhausted by the end but refuelled by Per’s delicious birthday cake. Not enough water to wash up the greasy dishes.

Neither Bob nor I had energy for anything else so crashed early. Won’t do that kind of meal again in a hurry.
