Slow breakfast of bacon and eggs, Ceuta style, after cold wake-up shower. Cleaned out the truck. Went over the maps of Africa with Bob and Jim, planning our trip and assuring each other we would be going today.
And Kelvin and Nikki arrived with the news that we were! Everyone’s delight fuelled a super-quick pack up, with lunch prepared and eaten by 12.50 and on the go at 1pm.
Drove to and through the border in surprisingly short time. Expected a 3-hour bureaucratic marathon but got through in 90 minutes. Still, the border was disorganised chaos with no evident reason for the waiting we did do. Handsome Berber women wearing layers of striped cloth and straw hats adorned with twisted blue ropes, and with towelling draped over stores on their backs, crossed the border with us. Saw camels and donkeys soon after entering Morocco.
Kel discovered a massive oil leak under the truck during a loo stop. Worrying but we pushed on to find a camp spot. First one no good; at the second attempt we got bogged in sand and grinding noises emanated from mechanical depths! Sand mats out for the first time to welcome us to Africa. Success with option four, a peaceful, sandy area.
Helped with dinner's fruit salad and pork spareribs. Supped Baileys Irish Cream dinner around the fire after dinner. The weather was so mild that Vicki, Bob and I slept around the fire under moonlight and stars. I stared into the fire until I dozed off.
