After a cold night, burrowed into my sleeping bag, I didn’t want to get up this morning, but did. Lit the fire again for some breakfast warmth.

Drove on, stopping late morning at a huge supermarket. Bob and I headed off with 500 French francs and returned with a trolley load of croissants, cheese and pate for lunch; four different fruit juices and Granny Smith apples; the makings of cauliflower and beef stroganoff for dinner and cheese omelettes for breakfast; plus a bottle of red wine for Bob and I to drink while cooking.

Drove through the afternoon, stopping late at a campsite run by a Welshman.

Late but delicious dinner, washed down with lots of red wine - drunk again. Four of us danced late to music on English co-driver Ben’s cassette player. Then I made tea for everyone: a herbal variety, using bouquet garni with warmed wine: an unusual flavour! Laughed about that for the rest of the evening.
