Drove all day; cold so sides down most of the time. Watching the kilometres disappear as we neared Algiers.
Finally made it into the outskirts of the city and what a rude awakening. Horrible stench as we passed a black, frothy, barely moving river backing onto squalid high-rise buildings. Garbage everywhere. Clothes hanging out. Streets packed with people and more clogged as we skirted Algiers proper and headed for the "beach" - and another rude awaking, with more garbage, wind and no beach.
Finally pulled up to camp in a field populated by tethered cows.
